The EAR Diocese of Shyogwe joyfully concluded its annual Education Week with a colorful and spirit-filled celebration held at the diocesan conference hall under the theme:
“Learn, Work, and Be Empowered – Be Bold, You Are Able!”
The ceremony brought together a wide range of education stakeholders, government officials, church leaders, educators, and students, all united in the shared mission of promoting quality education rooted in Christian values.
Distinguished Guests Included:
- The Right Reverend Louis Pasteur Kabayiza, Bishop of Shyogwe Diocese, and Mrs. Kabayiza
- The Vice Mayor in Charge of Social Affairs, Muhanga District
- Directors of Education from Nyanza and Ruhango Districts
- Education officers from CPR and Cyeza Sector
- Pastors overseeing schools, school headteachers, diocesan staff
- Students from Shyogwe TSS, ZEC, and various competing schools
- Representatives from Rwanda National Police and Mothers’ Union
The day was marked by vibrant activities such as poetry, worship songs, traditional dances, project exhibitions, and a Bible quiz, all led by students. These showcased both academic excellence and moral formation inspired by faith.
In his pastoral message, Bishop Kabayiza preached from Acts 20:33–35 and Proverbs 6:6–12, urging both learners and educators to embrace diligence, wisdom, and a Christ-centered work ethic. He emphasized the Church’s historic mission to offer holistic education—nurturing both the mind and the soul.
A special presentation was given by the Principal of Hanika Anglican Integrated Polytechnic, introducing its three active departments (Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, and ICT), with future plans to expand into Electrical Engineering and Software Development. The Principal called upon church partners to support this vision and become ambassadors for Christian technical education.
In her address, the Vice Mayor praised the Diocese for its unwavering commitment to education as a pillar of sustainable development, stating:
“We applaud the Anglican Church in Shyogwe for organizing this impactful event. Education is the cornerstone of national transformation. We are inspired by the creativity and excellence we have seen in these students.”
The Bishop closed the ceremony by expressing gratitude to the Government of Rwanda, particularly the President, for the significant investment in education through teacher deployment. He reaffirmed the Diocese’s commitment to advancing knowledge-based development and called on all Christian educators and school leaders to align with the national development agenda (NST1/NST2), ensuring that the Church remains a beacon of academic and spiritual light.
Plans were also announced to organize a “Diocesan Education Open Day”, a platform for schools to showcase their work and strengthen partnerships for future growth.
